We've Got Annie!

Last night the 5Th graders at the school in the dale performed scenes and songs form the musicals Annie and Newsies. Our Princess was selected to play Annie and I'm sure its because she was so familiar with the songs, thanks to her Aunt Gigi letting her watch it a million times at her place, and the fact that she has a nice singing voice. We were so proud of her and all of the 5Th graders for doing such an excellent job. The school in the dale is a performing and fine arts school and this program was to be a culmination of all the things they have learned through their years of being there. Here are some pictures and video clips from the show. And, remember the sound in the clips is never as good as the live performance.

Here is the princess a Orphan Annie. That's Grace to her left and the staff at the mansion behind her.

Here's a video clip of It's a Hard Knock Life performance.

Her teacher added this solo performance of Tomorrow a couple of weeks ago.

Another video of I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here.

And now for the last performance, Annie and Daddy Warbucks will sing I Don't Need Anything But You.

We were glad that Aunt Gigi, Uncle Harry and Cousin Shelby came to see the performance.

They gave the Princess some flowers!

The Cast!

Daddy Warbucks, Annie, Molly, Grace and Miss Hannigan.

P2 and P1 the tried on the Annie wig after the show and cracked us up. I don't think they would make very good Annies even though they know most of the songs.

It was a great evening of great talent. We have two more events to attend at the school next week ... P2's graduation from Pre-K and the Princess' bridging to middle school ceremony ... which means there will be at least two blog entries from me next week!

We can't forget P1 has field day on Friday and one of us should be there for that too! I'll do it! One more week and then summer craziness begins! What a ride!

I had a few tears during both performances of Annie. I don't think I'll make it through the bridging ceremonies at all!

Wow! I am really impressed. I did a lot of theater stuff in high school, and we didn't sound nearly as good as these 5th graders. Personally, I would have wanted to be one of the Newsies. Then I could practice my New York accent (which I have been told is really, really bad).

It was just too much fun! I'm so glad that we were able to go and take Shelby. We all really enjoyed it. I heard Shelby tell Madi today, "Princess did a great job on that stage". I thought that she was to funny about watching the Princess.

The clips were good and I can't wait to watch them again with Shelby.

That was so entertaining! Your daughter was impressive! It was so fun to watch. What a great job those 5th graders did. What would we do without our kids and grandchildren?

Amelia you were sooo wonderful, I enjoyed the vidios so much. We are so sad that we could not make it. That's the price we pay for getting old and decrepit.

Love you,
Papa

Dear Queen,
I keep watching over and over too, and it is sooo great. I've shed tears watching the videos and I can imagine yours at the performance.

I have just been heart broken that I didn't have a little more ooomph to get there. Our bags were packed and we were excited, planning up to midday and then the bottom fell out. We'd been looking forward since April.

BIG, BIG DEPRESSION! ! !

There's just no way to get over missing my Amelia Arlene as "Annie".
Thank heaven for cameras and videos.

Hugs, Love, & Prayers Always,

j

The Newsies were what they called paper boys in New York around the turn of the Century. Newsies is a Musical based on a true story about those paper boys ... That's about all I know except for the songs that the kids and their friends from school are still singing. Disney made a movie of it and I don't think it did very well at the box office ... I think though, that we are going to have to try and get it on dvd along with The Music Man ... the kids still break out into the songs from that. The other day I had the song Gary, Indiana in my head all day and I kept singing the few lines I knew to my co-worker ... they were glad when I went home!
